Wheatstone was looking for a web presence
that allowed existing and prospective clients to understand the
full range of their services. They particularly wanted a balance
between providing an overview of a fairly broad range of services
whilst using innovative navigation techniques to allow users to
get more information.

An example of how we responded to the
brief can be found on the Wheatstone
Clients page where information on all of their customers
can be reviewed on a single page by using multiple overlaying
windows. The look and feel remains consistent throughout the site
to make it easier for the user with the same navigation techniques
on all pages.

about Aylesbury Festival Choir.
The Aylesbury Festival Choir was formerly
known as the December Festival Choir - a long established choir
based in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, with 80 - 90 members and
an enthusiastic, professional conductor. Their programme includes
a wide variety of choral music, from Mozart to Tippett, and a
recently premiered new work written for the choir.

We approached AFC suggesting that, as
a charity, we could offer them a very cost-effective way of serving
their membership and extending their reach to new members through
the medium of the Internet. They asked Kophill to take the lead
in pursuing our suggestion to create a site for them, bearing
in mind that their target audience were not typically familiar
with the internet.

Given their concern that their target
audience might not all be "Internet Savvy" we responded
with a straightforward design, covering the whole range of their
activities, and still including extra features such as being able
to listen to excerpts of the choir's singing, and up-to-date reviews
of the choir's singing from the local press. We hope to enhance
this site later this year to give the AFC secretariat direct update
facilities for regularly changing information, such as newsletters
etc. Another Kophill initiative for this site was to promote the
site to UK search engines to make the choir easy to find for people
moving in to the Aylesbury Vale. In the first year, the site had
over 1,500 visitors, and generated a significant number of new
member queries, routed automatically to the membership secretary.

BSA's principals were looking to increase
their accessibility to potential customers looking for the services
they offer on the internet. The design grew from a series of
email interchanges based on a small brochure outlining their
services.

Given the nature of surveyors, they are
never in the office during office hours. Not easy to hold face-to
face
design meetings then! Other than the small BSA brochure, the
site design evolved through email interchange with the principals.
Kophill created a sample design which BSA tweaked over the first
month to meet their needs. In addition to web design and hosting,
BSA chose the Kophill web promotion service to appear high up
in UK search engines.

about Philip J Cooper BSC..
Philip Cooper obtained his Degree in Building
Surveying at Leicester in 1981. He was qualified as a Chartered
Building Surveyor in 1983 and has worked continuously in Private
Practice for over 20 years in the Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire
and Warwickshire areas and been self-employed for the past 10
years.
"One problem in today's society is the lack of support and
sincere help which we endeavour to counteract as part of our policy",
he states. He takes a great interest in the work and is proud
of the service offered. Especially enjoying meeting up with clients
to discuss findings of the inspections carried out and to give
advice on improvements or possible extensions.

Philip Cooper's design brief was simple;
"I do not want a lot of blurb, I envisage online forms with
check-boxes making it easy for customers to convey their needs
to me accurately, allowing me a more focussed response".

Philip provided us with his bio and examples
of how he would like the forms laid out, which he typed in using
a word processor. Working off these sheets of paper, we created
the web site you see today. Philip did not want any complex database
work, but simply wanted the forms emailed back to him. As well
as hosting and design, he took advantage of our web promotion
service. Philip recently commented that having a web presence
significantly boosted his revenues in the last operating year
by allowing potential customers from around the world to find
him easily.

Some of the key elements of a web site
is being able to structure the information provided elegantly
and allowing it to be navigated intuitively. With the physical
limits of "real estate" available on the web browser,
we have used multiple layers to display information, as controlled
by the user in the same web space (this page is an example of
it). Please take the time to click on all of the images to the
right to see how the windows size automatically, bringing in fresh
information in context. Do click on all three buttons above to
understand the customer's company, their requirements, and Kophill's
